Finally! The Chiefs get back to being the Chiefs! Patrick Mahomes lit the hapless Raiders up for 406 yards and 5 touchdowns. Of note, HE DID NOT THROW AN INTERCEPTION!!! The other major difference for the Chiefs is how their defense performed. The defensive line harassed Derek Car most of the night and held the Raiders rushing attack to a mere 50 yards. Chris Jones playing at his natural position on the interior of the defensive line is a major key to the Chief’s defensive success. Acquiring Melvin Ingram via trade is allowing Jones to play inside.
Mahomes is learning to be patient and take what the defense gives him. If the long route isn’t there, he is checking it down to the short and intermediate routes and letting his receiver’s work. Darrel Williams night is the evidence of Mahomes growth. He caught 9 balls for 101 yards and a touchdown. Those are Christian McCaffrey type numbers. Not to be outdone, Travis Kelce had a huge night with 8 catches and 119 yards. The Chiefs Sunday night victory is a blueprint for their success moving forward. Let’s see if they continue to stack wins.
