Week 1 Scouting Report

College Football is back!  Like many of you, I watched more than a few games this week.  Below are my top players from the games I watched.  The individuals I chose to highlight are players I think could play in the NFL based on their week one performance. I did not choose players from every game I watched.  For instance, I caught the Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Notre Dame and Florida State games.  No one stood out to me in those games, except Florida State.  The Seminoles Football Program is a dumpster fire.

Notably, I watched KSU as well, but opted to not place any of their players on the list, as the Wildcats treated their first game like an NFL Pre-season 1 game.  Despite that, Avery Johnson, DJ Giddens and Dylan Edwards are worth paying attention to as the season develops.

Here is my list of players to watch this season.

  • Cam Ward, QB – Miami: 385 yards and 3 TD along with 3 rushes for 33 yards
    • Calm, Cool, Collected. Never looked rattled despite pressure.
  • Miller Moss, QB – USC: 378 yards and 1TD. Played thru a messy pocket.
    • Under constant pressure. Mentally and physically tough.
  • Colston Loveland, Tight End – Michigan: 8 receptions for 87 yards and a TD.
    • Excellent Blocker.
  • Mason Taylor, Tight End – LSU: 7 receptions for 62 yards. Reliable receiver.
    • Effective blocker.
  • Will Johnson, CB – Michigan: multiple tackles and pass break ups. Pick Six.
  • Kyron Hudson, WR – USC: 5 receptions for 83 yards.
    • Most of his catches were contested, and two were spectacular.
  • Travis Hunter, DB, WR – Colorado: 7 receptions for 132 and 3 touchdowns.
    • His first touchdown of the night was spectacular.
  • Jimmy Horn Jr, WR – Colorado: 7 receptions for 198 yards and a touchdown.
    • Lunch pail receiver.
  • Jack Bech, WR – TCU: 6 receptions, 139 yards and 1 TD. Big play receiver.
  • Savion Williams, WR – TCU: 11 receptions, 85 yards and 1 TD.
    • Dependable and tough despite two costly drops.
  • Kyren Lacy, WR – LSU: 7 receptions for 94 yards and a TD.
    • Needs to control emotions. Superb talent.
  • Tetairoa McMillan, WR – Arizona: – 10 receptions 304 yards, 4 TDs.
    • Video game numbers that can’t be ignored.
  • Kenneth Grant, DT – Michigan: At 6‘3 and 339, his movement skills are excellent.  Anchor in the middle of Michigan’s defense.
  • Mason Graham, DT – Michigan: like Grant, picked up where he left off. Grant and Graham are the best interior defensive line pair in college football.

I want to emphasize that these assessments are based off the televised productions showing these games and not off an ALL 22 review.  These assessments are purely based off my eye test.  I listed the statistics to show their in-game accomplishments as a hallmark of their talent. Statistics never tell the whole story.  Hope you enjoy.  Let us know who you think are players to watch.
