College Football Week 2 Rollup

College Football Roll Up

For me the game of the week was UCLA beating LSU, a long time SEC power. LSU, two years removed from a national championship had no answers for physicality of the UCLA team. Charbonet ran up and down the field on the LSU defenders. Chip Kelley dialed up some great plays, and his players delivered. DTR has showed marked improvement from last year. UCLA is poised to be a major player in the PAC 12 this year. Now for my quick roll up:

  1. Georgia outlasts Clemson.  At the end of the game Georgia looked better conditioned and more physical than the beleaguered Clemson Tigers.

  1. Alabama is still Alabama.  The Canes have lots of work to do in order to return to glory.

  1. Oklahoma was unimpressive in their 5-point win against Tulane.  Are they really the #2 team in the country?

  1. Montana gets paid a boatload of cash to play Washington.  Oh…and Montana won.

  1. KSU dominates Stanford.

  1. Third time is the charm for Sark!  Freshman QB Hudson Card is impressive in the Longhorn victory.

  1. UTSA embarrasses Illinois.

  1. Northern Illinois edges Georgia Tech

  1. Michigan State is disciplined in their victory against Northwestern.  Look for the Spartans to make some waves in the Big 10 this year.

  1. Wisconsin flummoxed by Penn State’s new offense.

  1. Number 7 Iowa State wins 16 to 10 over UNI.  Who is UNI?  Looks like the Cyclones are overrated….

  1. Number 8 Cincinnati destroys Miami.  No, not THAT Miami…Miami of Ohio.

  1. Army and Airforce win their matchups by large margins.  Navy lost 49-7 to Marshall.

  1. Oregon struggles to win against Fresno State.  Fresno might be better than we thought…at least that is what Duck fans are hoping.

  1. Michigan Wolverines finally look and play like WOLVERINES!

  1. Charlotte 49ers best Duke.   Yup…

  1. South Dakota State embarrasses Colorado State 42-23…

  1. Number 10 North Carolina loses to unranked Virginia Tech.  Is Tech back, or are the Tarheels that bad?

    19.  Cornhuskers relive the 80s by smashing Fordham 52-7.  They used to do that to top 10 teams.

Parting Notes: I am particularly interested in Houston, BYU, Cincinnati, and Louisville. They have all received invites to join the Big 12. It is interesting to see what level of competition they will bring. So far, only Houston has disappointed. As for the current state of the Big 12…the top 3 teams appear to be Texas, Kansas State and Oklahoma…about in that order. It is early in the season yet…so it’s not time to panic just yet.
