The Comeback Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs got playoff ready in their regular season finale against their divisional rival Denver Broncos by doing something that they utilized in the playoffs during their Super Bowl run. They spotted Denver a healthy lead and then came from behind to secure the win. The Broncos were playing with passion for their coach Vic Fangio. Fangio is a beloved and respected coach by his players and they could sense that his seat was blazing hot. The Denver players wanted to win the game to try and keep Fangio employed, but their efforts would not be enough to hold back the Chiefs from escaping with the victory.

Miami Dolphin in Chief

Black Monday started off with a bang as the Miami Dolphins shocked the football world by releasing Brian Flores from his head coaching position after he had just completed the first back-to-back winning seasons for the Dolphins since 2003. There were a lot of rumblings as to whether or not Flores, the former Belichick protégé, was on the hot seat when the team got off to a 1-7 start to the season but was generally thought to be safe after a dramatic turnaround culminated in a 7-game winning streak.

Dolphins Sweep Patriots

The Miami Dolphins ended their 2021-2022 with a win but one can hardly say that they ended it on a high note. The Dolphins did impressive work to turn things around a 1-7 record at the midway point of the season into a respectable winning record, but unfortunately it was not enough to get them into the post regular season tournament. Therefore, this season can ultimately only be seen as a disappointment. The Dolphins have only made the playoffs twice over the past 2 decades and their last playoff win was all the way back in December of 2000. Remember that year?

Cowboys First Loss in 2022

The Cowboys could win it all this year or get knocked out at home in the first round of the playoffs. I wouldn’t be surprised either way. That is the kind of blood pumping, head scratching, frustrating, exhilarating, exhausting, up and down season that they are having. After their opening night loss to the Bucs, the Cowboys were dominant, winning 6 in a row. I thought their season would be terminating in Inglewood California’s SoFi Stadium on February 13th for sure. I was in the process of making travel plans before the Omicron variant and the meat of the AFC West part of the schedule hit.

Miami’s Destiny Defeated

For the second season in a row, the Dolphins went into week 17 in pole position for the final AFC Wildcard playoff spot with their destiny in their own hands. Granted this season has an extra game and an expanded format which created an extra playoff spot, but still, all they had to do was win out and they were in. It sounds so easy when people say it that way: “Win and they’re in,” as if winning in the NFL is easy or a given. The odds are not in your favor no matter how much of your own destiny you think you control when you have to go on the road in a cold bad weather game against arguably one of the best teams in the conference. The odds are not in your favor when Dolphins teams historically always play horribly in cold bad weather games with a playoff berth on the line. Just flashback to week 17 of last season when the Phins went up to Western New York with everything to play for and got destroyed by a Buffalo Bills team that should have been resting their starters.
