Thanks to Purdue yet another top 3 team went down today in their surprising upset of Iowa. As we have pointed out previously, the motif of the 2021-2022 season has been all about ranked teams losing to unranked teams and highly ranked teams losing to lower ranked teams. This weekend the upset team kept on chugging courtesy of the Big 10, the SEC, and the Pac 12. Let’s get into the Rollup for college football this week.
Ole Miss wins in a crazy matchup with Tennessee that was delayed by 90,000 fans throwing debris on the field and hitting Kiffin with a neon golf ball that he kept as a souvenir. Ole Miss survives on a defensive stop after a dropped touchdown once the crowd was sent off from the stadium and play resumed.
San Diego State and Oregon both held on late to win under the Friday night lights. The Aztecs needed overtime and the Ducks needed some clutch defensive plays to see the games out to victory.
Oklahoma State is an undefeated top 10 team now courtesy of a come from behind win over Texas. Sark has to be happy that he doesn’t have to coach against anymore Oklahoma teams because he had 2 legitimate upset bids foiled late in back-to-back weeks.
Texas A&M follow up their stunning defeat of Bama last week with a decisive 21-point victory over Mizzou.
Michigan State underwhelms against Indiana. But they are still streaking and undefeated. Officially into the top 10 as well.
Cincinnati destroyed UCF. They’re legit. That’s all that needs to be said about that.
Auburn proves that on any given Saturday any team in the SEC not named Vanderbilt has the talent to beat anyone else. Arkansas is streaking in the wrong direction after a very strong start.
The Georgia G-train just keeps on matriculating up the field as they laid waste to the previously undefeated Kentucky Wildcats. Kirby Smart’s defense held Stoops’s high flying offense to just 13 points. We may he witnessing the defensive equivalent to what LSU did offensively in 2019.
Pittsburgh is looking like they could actually be the best team in the ACC with a dominant win over Va Tech. That athletic Hokie front seven couldn’t get going all game.
Down goes Iowa! Iowa couldn’t follow up the success of upsetting Penn State and they gave up an upset defeat of their own this weekend. I don’t know how many people really felt like they were the 2nd best team in the country. I reckon it couldn’t have been many. I hesitate to say that they fell for the trap game because Purdue is a better team than you normally find in trap games.
UTSA is still undefeated and beats up Rice 45-0 in a battle of big city Texan teams.
Baylor knocks off BYU in another unranked vs ranked upset and now Baylor is ranked and BYU is not.
Caleb Williams was impressive in his first start for the Sooners. Rattler watched that performance and immediately knew the transfer portal is in his near future.
NC State took care of Boston College in Alumni stadium in the ACC nightcap. The result could be consequential in deciding the Atlantic division but the game was underwhelming for the fans.
Miami loses another heartbreaker to North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mack Brown is undefeated against his former understudy Manny Diaz since his return to North Carolina. It feels like the Manny Diaz era is coming to a close.
Alabama smacked around Leach and those cowbells in Starkville, Mississippi. It was interesting early but got boring in a hurry as the Tide rolled 49-9.
In the last game of the weekend Arizona State fell in another ranked team upset loss to an unranked Utah. Apparently, the Utes are quarterbacked by a Kylo Ren body double whose football acumen is strong with the force. It’s only right that the weekend ended with an upset.
