49ers Bears Football

49ers Lose Road Opener

The 49ers lose at Soldier Field. It was a game they were supposed to win and win by a wide margin. The weather had a say. The Bears defense had a say. However, the biggest concern is the discipline of the 49ers themselves. Having watched them live in their last preseason game at Houston, I noted it but quickly dismissed the issue. It seems the 49ers lack of discipline in game three of the pre-season has followed them from Houston to Chicago. Eleven penalties for close to 100 yards cannot happen.

The Good News Is….

Considering the upsets, near upsets, and injuries that occurred across the country in college football on Saturday, taking a 23-point win with no major injuries for granted is something that I am not prepared to do at this juncture. The Miami Hurricanes are 2-0 and while at times they have not looked good while doing it, there are times where they have flashes of dominance that give the skeptics some temporary relief. For context, Notre Dame shockingly fell at home to Marshall. Texas A&M’s lack of discipline on the defensive line cost them at home against Appalachian State. Those five-star recruits in the greatest class of all time have not come of age for the Aggies just yet. Injuries plagued Pitt at home against Tennessee. Slovis went down and their backup was banged up, or they probably beat the Vols instead of losing in overtime. I personally feel Texas got robbed of 2 points when they had that safety taken off the board. But even still, #1 Alabama barely got out of Austin with their scalp on their heads after a last second kick sealed their 1-point victory.

Verstappen Wins 5 in a Row!

Though Max Verstappen won his fifth race in a row, he started seventh on the grid. Verstappen his teammate Sergio Perez took new engines for Monza. Verstappen is on his fifth new engine of the season. Each team is allocated three engines before penalties are assessed. Despite a seventh-place start, Verstappen was already up to fourth place, getting a huge jump on the start, as he passed by Lando Norris well before the first chicane of the race. By the time he rounded the 3.6 mile circuit and was back on the main straight heading into lap two, Verstappen was powering past Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren at a blistering pace. As lap five started, a Red Bull and a Mercedes were heading into the chicane at turn one. Last year, Verstappen and Hamilton crashed out in this same chicane in spectacular fashion. This year, it was Verstappen and George Russell heading into the same chicane and the results were much tamer. There wasn’t even a tire rub as Verstappen rolled by into second place.
