A Tale of Perspectives

A Tale of Perspectives

The Mario Cristobal era kicked off with a bang on Saturday as they easily dispatched the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 70-13 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Canes did what they were supposed to do. The Miami Hurricanes handled the FCS opponent in decisive fashion and scored 10 touchdowns (9 offensive and 1 pick six). The fresh look Hurricanes covered the spread and if you bet the over, then you were an incredibly happy camper when you cashed in your betting ticket. All-in-all it was a good show for the 50,000 plus fans who braved the Florida summer heat, tailgated then attended the game. However, there are some fans who are unhappy with the team display on Saturday. Specifically, some fans are concerned with the lack of production against an FCS secondary.

Wildcats Win Home Opener

Wildcats Win Home Opener

As the Kansas State Wildcats dominated their home opener on Saturday afternoon, memories of yester year flooded to the forefront. Arthur Brown, Larry Brown, Darren Howard, Collin Klein, Tyler Lockett and Ell Roberson were inducted into the Kansas State Ring of Honor this weekend. I am not old enough to remember Larry Brown’s playing days. However, I have watched Arthur Brown, Howard, Klein, Lockett and Roberson play. I think I watched every televised game they played in. All of them played for Bill Snyder, who was present to hand them their awards on the field on Saturday. Darren Howard and Tyler Lockett went on to have prolific careers in the NFL. All the inductees dominated during their time at KSU. It is good for the new generation to see how Kansas State honors these men and their past accomplishments. Hopefully it is motivation for the new generation to strive to be their best.

Razorbacks Pass First Test Against Bearcats

Razorbacks Pass First Test Against Bearcats

Arkansas was tested in their home opener. Cincinnati came to Fayetteville ready to play. Though the Bearcats lost nine players to the NFL draft, they showed up reloaded with a talented squad. The strength of their offense is their run game and they used it against the Razorbacks to attempt to set up a passing attack. The Razorbacks were able to stifle the Bearcats passing attack at times, however they struggled with the Bearcat run game in the first half. In the second half, the Bearcat’s speedy wide receivers started to burn up the Razorback secondary, though their quarterback couldn’t hit them. Overall, the Razorbacks hung tough on defense, and executed when they needed to on offense. This win is significant as it is their first victory against a ranked team in a home opener in over 20 years. This game is sure to build their confidence.
